Amazingly intelligent amoebas

Amoebas are tiny sacks of watery liquid with thin membranes and as living things go they are completely and utterly brainless. However it doesn't stop them from being not only quite intelligent, but also real good team players.
Slime mold amoebas crawl around the forest eating decaying leaves and rotting wood. When the food becomes scarce they all gather in one place for a family meeting. Then they squeeze tightly together forming a shape like a slug. This slug crawls around like a real slug, and all the amoebas composing it cooperate remarkably well - they don't fight about which is the front and which is the back and move smoothly front end forward. When the slug finds a spot it likes (somehow all the amoebas must be in agreement about that too), it stops crawling and starts stretching up as high as it can. Again, there is no fighting among the amoebas about who gets to be on top, and who sacrifices himself to become a part of the stalk. The ones on top are the lucky ones, because they get to become the spores and to fly away to start a new family, like the seeds of the dandelion or the ant queens.

Now it gets even crazier! The amoebas don't eat all of the yammy bacterias they like so much, but bring some with them to the slug-forming fest to eat later, and, some scientists suspect, may be packing some inside the spores for in case there is nothing to eat when they land.

Supplements to fight fat caused by carbs

People who have been eating carbs in the form of bread and pasta for too long, plus too many cookies and drinks containing high fructose corn syrup, have developed insulin resistance and leptin resistance - both hormones necessary for processing sugar and fat. Below is a list of natural supplements that will help you get rid of that stubborn carb and junk-food caused rolls of fat and help reduce the craving for carbs and sweets, without giving up the carbs completely.

Never, NEVER EVER eat or drink anything containing high fructose corn syrup!

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS for short) is much worse for you than sugar, even though the food manufacturers try to assure you that it is not.  They want everyone to think so, because corn is a lot cheaper. But in reality, they are different on the molecular level: fructose corn syrup has weaker molecular bonds and is absorbed quicker into the blood stream, going straight to the liver, triggering production of fat.  Rapidly absorbed sugar from HFCS causes huge insulin spikes. The result is: quickly growing rolls of fat around your middle, and, eventually, type 2 diabetes, when your body develops insulin resistance.  HFCS probably causes more liver damage in the US than alcohol, called "fatty liver", which currently affects more than 70 million people.  High Fructose Corn Syrup is not food, should not ever be eaten. It slowly poisons you, destroys your metabolism and your liver, and accelerates aging.

I sent an email to the White House suggesting to put high sales tax on everything containing high fructose corn syrup, as a good way to raise money to reduce the national deficit - it really is just as harmful as cigarettes and the alcohol, so why shouldn't it be taxed! Write to the White House as well. So many foods contain the HFCS, charging tax on them should totally pull this country out of economic slump.

How to be healthy if you are poor (flat broke, low-income, financially challenged)

You might have said to someone, "I can't afford all that expensive organic food." You might have also read on line some statistic like, "Low income people, as a rule, have a very unhealthy diet."  But it doesn't have to be this way!  So listen up...

You can't kill fat cells but you can poke holes in them and empty them out

Now that we declared war on our fat cells, how do we kill them?

Each person has a predetermined constant number of fat cells in the body. If you permanently destroy or kill some of them, the studies show that the body will make more fat cells to get back to that prescribed number. Fat cells are like rows and rows of little storage bags under the skin that get filled up with fat, like rolls of bubble wrap. As you know bubble wrap comes in different bubble sizes, and do your fat cells - they can be small, large or X-large. You can be same fat as the next fat person, but you might have fewer cells which are larger, and the other person a greater number of smaller cells. It is better to be the person number two. The larger fat cells are tied to more health problems, they also look worse forming ugly cellulite lumps. It is possible to puncture holes in the fat cells with a laser and let the fat leak out and be naturally eliminated by your body.
These treatments are completely painless, safe, cause no bruising, no swelling, no downtime, no damage to the cell structure. They could reduce your waist size by two inches after first two treatments, eliminating the cellulite look, and improving your overall health.

Sleep naked to lose weight as you sleep

I knew there was some reason I always hated wearing pajamas and being too warm at night.  I was right!  Dr. Natasha Turner (a guest of Dr. Oz on The Dr. Oz Show) said that you can reset your fat loss hormones by sleeping naked.  Sleeping naked can help melt your fat because as your body cools down while you sleep it releases fat burning hormones. Pajamas, sweats, leggings, shorts, bras, and heavy blankets can keep you from cooling down, meaning those hormones aren’t released, which means fat stays put and get hard packed.

       - Then I'm already ahead of you, doc!
I'm doing that resistance training every day:
I'm lifting 300 pounds at least twelve times
a day whenever I get off the couch
to go to the bathroom or to get another beer
and another bag of chips!

Pick your nose all you want - it's supposed to be good for you as long as you eat your boogers!

The nose hairs and the mucus catch the germs floating around in the air, and eating them may strengthen your immune system, says Scott Napper, a biochemistry professor at the University of Saskatchewan. He thinks that mother nature is prompting little kids to pick their noses, and that the grown ups shouldn't stop them. He is planning to do a controlled study on picking noses and eating boogers to prove his theory. He is planning on inserting some germs into the subjects' noses and then breaking them up into two groups, where one group would eat their boogers and the other wouldn't. He wants to see if the members of the group who don't eat the boogers get sick.

Safety and survival must: emergency cell phone charger

Imagine: you're driving alone home late at night along a deserted country road. Suddenly your car dies. You grab for your cell phone, but the battery is dead! The nearest gas station is ten miles away. And, to make it worse, a cougar comes out of the woods, jumps on the hood of your car and stretches out, enjoying the warmth, and licking his mouth in an anticipation of a juicy snack - you.

This is where an emergency flash charger in your purse or your glove compartment comes in very handy. They are very small and cheap - no reason not to have one.

Are android lovers the way of the future?

This guy is totally happy coming home to his harem of lifelike dolls (a link to a youtube video about this man and his dolls). The Japanese are well on their way to perfecting androids and it is only the matter of time before they will become an affordable and agreeable addition to our bedrooms. Watch the video and see how cool these androids are. Many, including myself, believe that the completely lifelike androids are in our near future. Disease free, drama free, no risk of pregnancy, non-judgmental, obedient, faithful, skilled in all the sex techniques, and programmed to say all the right things. And you'll be able to order one that looks and acts like the rock star you have a crush on! Read my short play My Husband Is an Android about our not-so-distant future.

To wear or not to wear a bra - that is the question. French study says, "Off with your bra!"

Why do women wear a bra? They mistakenly believe that wearing a bra keeps their breasts from sagging. A study just done this spring in France proves that quite the opposite is true - NOT wearing a bra keeps your breasts perky. Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, a sports medicine specialist from Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Besancon in Besancon, France, published the results of the study showing that wearing bras does not prevent women's breasts from sagging, but may actually worsen sagging. The study span 15 years and used 330 volunteers between the ages 18 and 35. Their breasts were measured throughout the study period:

Munching while watching TV will be your undoing!

I had this awful problem - I couldn't just sit through watching a movie or a show without snacking. Do you realize how many calories are in those snacks! A medium size bag of movie popcorn is 800 calories! One serving of corn chips or potato chips (about 10 chips) is 110 to 300 calories, depending on the brand. This is bad enough, but do you really think you can keep your hand out of the bag for two hours? I thought I was doomed to keep getting rounder and rounder like a snow ball, but I hit upon a solution:

Carry pepper spray with you at all times, protect yourself when out exercizing

If you are a health-minded individual, the odds are you jog or walk a lot. A lot of good it would do staying healthy and fit, just to get killed or maimed in the prime of your life by a vicious animal or a sick human on a lonely trail in the park. Carry pepper spray on your key chain with you every time you go jogging or hiking! Luckily, they are real cheap, and I have some links down below for you to order them.
Last summer (2012) a 28 y.o. woman Michaela Lee was attacked by several racoons in Fort Steilacoom Park near Tacoma, WA. They chased her for about 75 feet, knocked her down and bit her. She had a dog with her, but the dog was no help against the racoon, if anything, it just made them more angry.
On April 2nd this year (2013) at 5am a woman jogging in West Seattle was attacked by an unknown man. The attacker came out of the shadows and grabbed her...

Make sure to celebrate May 25th - the international Towel Day in honor of Douglas Adams

Douglas Adams (1952-2001) is that author who wrote the delightful Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy. If you haven't read the books or seen the movie yet (which you should immediately!) you should know that whenever hiching a ride on a UFO you should always bring a towel. (Personally, I'd bring the toothpaste, toothbrush and toilet paper as well.)

May 24th - the international Schizophrenia Day!

Let us celebrate schizophrenia today!
I have personally known two schizophrenics, they were both paranoid. (A friend of mine introduced me to a third schizophrenic at a party, who, he claimed, was not paranoid. I didn't stick around to find out.)
The first one believed that the mafia was chasing him, ruining his life by getting him fired from every job he'd ever gotten (which he managed quite well by himself with his mean attitude towards people (only real people), his dislike of working and his love of booze). He also had an imaginary private detective and an imaginary lawyer who somehow managed to absorb a large quantity of real money and produce real paperwork.
