You might say, "What's that got to do with health and longevity?" Quite a bit, actually.
A cup of turtle meat has about 220 calories, 9 g of fat, of which 2 g are saturated. 1 cup of beef steak has 340 calories, 20 g of fat, of which 8 g are saturated. Beef has 111 mg of cholesterol, while turtle has 82 mg.
Turtle meat is high in calcium - 20 percent of your recommended daily total, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, phosphorous and zinc.
Traditional Chinese medicine has been using turtles and turtle eggs for food and medicine for hundreds of years; believing that turtle meat enriches and nourishes the kidneys, the heart and the blood, and the turtle eggs were believed to be an aphrodeziac. Turtle meat is also thought to promote longevity.
Sea turtles have been around more than 200 million years. They live up to 150 years, so no wonder turtles have been an ancient longevity mascot forever.
The ancient Chinese, Hindu and Native Americans beleived that the Earth sat on a huge turtle. http://www.native-science.net/Turtle_Elephant_Myth.htm
