Natural homeopathic treatment for Cushing's Disease

Feline and Canine Cushing's disease (hyperadrenocorticism) is a rare disorder in cats, and a common disease in dogs. It normally occurs in older dogs and cats.
Cushing’s disease is caused by a tumor of either the pituitary or adrenal glands, causing the production of excess cortisol. Cortisol is a naturally-occurring chemical in the body, which helps the body respond to stress such as infection or pain. With Cushing’s disease, the body produces too much cortisol, even when there is no stress, poisoning the animal.

Cushing's Disease Symptoms

* Increased water drinking
* Increased urination, peeing accidents
* Eating too much
* Weight gain or loss, lethargy
* Feeling too hot, seeking cool places to lie on
* Bloated or “pot-bellied” appearance
* Excessive panting, tire easily, doesn't want to jump
* Thinning hair or baldness
* Dull, dry coat
* Thin skin that is easily bruised or torn
* Diabetes

Treatment of Cushing's Disease

Cats don't respond to medication as well as dogs. A drug metyrapone is sometimes effective. Surgery is the preferred method of treatment for cats, but not if they are very old. The surgical treatment is removal of one or both adrenal glands. These are difficult surgeries, and patients may need to be referred to a specialty hospital or a university. Only 50% of cats survive more than six months after the surgery, and many owners opt against the surgery, especially for older cats.

Ingredients such as dandelion and burdock have properties that are associated with helping the function of adrenal glands. Give your kitty dandelion tea.
