How long different animals live

I can't believe some of these facts! The dumb animals such as tortoises live the longest - about 150 years. A stupid ugly toad lives 36 years! Parrots and swans live a long time - up to 100 years or even more, but they are pretty and smart, at least. But who needs a nasty alligator to live 56 years! Mice live from one to two years, but a little brown bat lives up to 30 years! A star fish lives 300 years, and a cat fish 60 years. In fact, some fishes and reptiles are thought to live forever until something bad happens to them. What a waste! Why are there such huge life span differences in animals, even those that seem very similar, like bats and mice? And it certainly doesn't seem right that a very smart animal should live less time than a dumb animal.
