After I posted that article late Tuesday night (toxins in mascara) I got my butt off the couch walked to the bathroom to wash my face and get ready for bed. Then it hit me, what kind of chemicals am I rubbing into my skin every night when I use my "stress acne control" face wash?!? So I looked into it of course!
Then there was triclosan, used in most of our soaps, washes, and even deodorants! Have you ever used a face wash for a while and at first it helped clear up some acne but then after using the product for a longer period of time you notice that your skin is starting to regress to previous "acne spotted" days? That is what triclosan does! It actually exposes itself to bacteria in our bodies and makes them more resistant! Not to mention, it may also impact your thyroid function (note: that plays role in your bodies fat). Talk about two faced!
As I examined the ingredients of my face wash several things crossed my mind:
What is this language?!?
Why are there color dyes being put on my face???
How could something with such a long name, "Cocamidopropyl PG Dimonium Chloride Phosphate", not even be fully understood by scientists!?!?!
Okay so there's a lot to wonder but let me give you the rundown on what to be sure to avoid.
First off, now bear with me on this one, ditch the fragrances. I know, I know, we all want to smell nice right? Well trust me on this one because according to certain, rather hidden, lab studies the fragrances put in so many products actually disrupts our hormones! Cough, Cough, that's your body shape and form, acne, and soooo on....
Secondly, parabens. Let's just say, parabens were discovered in the tissue of breast tumors. I think that should be enough said, yes?
Ok this next one really gets to me because it's just more proof those big companies don't have your best interest in mind! Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate, the chemicals that actually strip out natural oils and therefore you end up needing more product to make up for the damage the first product caused!

Ok I'm starting to scare myself just thinking about all of this!
So here's the lesson to get out of all these words: ditch the chemically filled soaps, face washes, shampoos, and all that jazz. I have some friends who like to shower and live without using ANY soaps or anything of the sort (and they look better then ever). However, if you are like me, and you find it hard to part from the luxury of lathering up a pleasantly smelling cleanser of some form then I recommend some of the following products, in order of my personal favorite to least ;)
