A recent study evaluated 586 people to see how taking vitamins affected the telomere length. It was found that those who took daily multivitamins had 5% longer telomeres than those who didn't.
More analysis of what was in those vitamins people took showed that the vitamins B12, E and C were always associated with longer telomeres, but those supplements containing Iron - with shorter telomeres. (I have an earlier post about the harmful effects of iron, which you might want to read. ) Basically, any anti-oxidant multivitamin formula without iron worked the best. Vitamins C and E were even put in cell cultures and were observed to retard the telomere shortening.
